How Many Carbs Should You Include In Your Medifast Lean Green Meal?

Sometimes I hear from people who want more clarification on Medifast’s lean and green food. (This is the main meal you prepare yourself. And since doing it right is your responsibility because it is the only food that is not offered to you, few people want to be wrong.)

Sometimes people ask me how many carbohydrates you are supposed to eat for this main meal. I have to be honest and tell you that I don’t really keep track of this myself. Generally, I follow the guidelines for ounces of lean protein and for including three servings of vegetables. And in my opinion, covering these bases should ensure that you don’t eat too many carbs.

However, this question piqued my curiosity. So I set out to research this topic. Now, before I tell you what I have found, I want to emphasize that I strongly recommend that you bring this concern to the company. But, the general guidelines indicate that you should not consume more than 80 to 85 carbohydrates per day.

So we can take a look at many of the packaged options, determine how many carbohydrates they contain, and then calculate how many would be left for your lean and green meal. For the purposes of your article, I will choose five meals, add the total amount, and then calculate what you would have left. Note that this is an estimate for one day, but one interesting thing about Medifast meals is that they are often very similar in calories, carbohydrates, and protein. That way, you can choose anything and still be fine.

For breakfast, I’ll choose the mixed berry crunchy cereal. It has 15 grams of carbohydrates. For the breakfast snack, I will choose a 13 gram chocolate shake. The sloppy lunchtime Joe is 15. The snack of a peanut butter crunchy bar is also 13. Finally, for my late night snack, I chose a diet brownie that is also 15. This gives me a total of about 71 carbohydrates for the entire day, leaving you about 14 for your lean, green meal.

This makes sense when you think about it, because each meal equates to about 15 carbs assigned to each. Essentially, this generally equates to a small serving six times a day, which I think is quite reasonable. Again, these are just my own calculations based on random sample foods that I chose, so your results may vary a bit. You can do the same with your own meals and see if you get the same results.
