Blimpy: weight gain during pregnancy

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that women gain between 25 and 35 pounds during pregnancy. Of course, this weight depends on the initial weight of the woman. If you are overweight then you should gain less and if you are underweight then you should gain more. Easy enough. Now, let’s say your girl starts her pregnancy at a healthy, sexy weight. What the hell will he look like with thirty pounds more? Don’t worry! It is evenly distributed throughout the body and does not reach the ass. Here’s a general breakdown of where the weight goes:

* Baby (also known as the bun in the oven): 7.5 pounds

* Placenta: 1.5 pounds

* Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds

* Increased uterus (This also grows): 2 pounds

* Largest breast size (Yes, for you!): 2 pounds

* More blood (now overheats easily): 4 pounds

* Fluid retention (Not fun for your partner): 4 pounds

* Maternal fat stores (your weight gain): 7 pounds

Total average gain: 30 pounds

To help keep weight gain on track, your partner should aim to gain 3 to 5 pounds during the first trimester, averaging 1 to 1.5 pounds per month. During your second trimester, you should gain about 0.5 pounds per week, and you should gain an average of 1 pound per week during your third trimester. Again, this is just a guide, so don’t freak out (and don’t let her freak out) if she gains 2 pounds a week and nothing more. For the most part, her body is doing its thing. She just relax and enjoy the ride.
