Books: Instrument to accompany the growth of our children

Books are faithful friends, always ready to leave room for the imagination, to live adventures on the wings of fantasy, to fill moments of boredom. For this reason, it is never too early for a child to get to know books and reading, obviously choosing texts that are suitable for children of a few months.

Books for this age are specially made to be used by children to train their rudimentary grasp. In addition, the images inside the books are a window to that world necessary for their growth. The illustrations are almost always fantastic, but they are the first external stimulus that intervenes to allow the construction of reality. The booklets, to respond to this need, are practical, with simple and colorful images, to capture their attention. With few words, they can contain images of bibs, baby food, feeding bottles, cribs… familiar and reassuring objects that the child sees and learns to recognize in his cognitive experience. Even at six months, a book can be a pleasurable experience at quiet playtime, before bedtime, or at nap time. But above all, books are a fundamental tool for learning languages: by reading the parents’ stories or listening to the description of the images, the child learns the sounds of his language, knows his first words, lays the fundamental foundations of verbal expression.

When the child grows up and is therefore able to understand short stories from his daily experiences, he will be able to further expand his personal knowledge. The stories can talk about the first day of kindergarten, saying goodbye to pacifiers, playing with friends, or bedtime. Seeing, with mom and dad’s help, these moments in the books one more time, with rhyming stories and cheerful, colorful pictures, will help the child recognize her difficulty and perhaps even overcome it, just like the characters. of the tales in the book. The same happens later, around 24 months, when the child must face realities that are not always easy to face on a day-to-day basis, such as potty training, the birth of a baby brother, the start of kindergarten. childhood with the commitments that compose it. Even in this case, a book is a valid instrument to accompany growth because our children will see themselves and difficulties in the likeable protagonists. In fact, they could imitate the hero character of the story to solve problems because they feel that their difficulties are common and shared by others…
