Don’t Let Your Camera Or Your Love Of Photography Turn To Frustration – Book Review

Do you want to learn how to take better pictures? Well that’s what I wanted to learn, so I bought a photography book and became a quasi-expert in less than 3 months (in my opinion). But seriously, I wouldn’t or couldn’t say that if I hadn’t read this book:

“How to improve your photography: tips and techniques you can use with your camera” by Carl Shipman (editor), 1981.

Taking photographs with purpose is the main theme of this work, one that you must read if you really want to master your photography. There are chapters on setting up shots and understanding perspectives, as well as learning the details of lines, patterns, texture, contrast, and color. The book shows you how to use light, special effects, and create the perfect works.

Ever wonder how to take perfect multiple exposure photos? It’s all here in Carl Shipman’s book. You will learn how to handle your camera (35mm) like a pro. You will know why you are taking the photo before you shoot and compose your shot from the viewfinder. Understanding depth, scale, and overviews is all here.

In fact, I really enjoyed the sections on diagonal comps, vanishing points, and shots with all the line and shape details. Do you want to emphasize textures, tone, contrast, darker areas or do silhouettes, photo essays and illuminated surfaces? How about understanding the vocabulary of color, harmony, the chaos of colors, photographing sunsets or sunrises? Zoom in and out, but first go online and buy this book so you can become one of the great photographers of our time.
