How much is the Yankees’ Derek Jeter really worth?

Okay, I know everyone loves Derek Jeter and he’s good for Major League Baseball with a very good image. Now even with all that, is it worth more than 21 million a year for 3 years? How good can a 37-year-old shortstop (the oldest in the league) be? He won the Glove Glove in 2010, but most say it was more of a gift than his talent. He has no rank left. In 15 years playing for the Yankees, he had 100 or more RBI just once. He hit 20 or more home runs only twice. He has a. 314 career batting average, but how much weight does that really carry? He’s just now wrapping up a 10-year contract worth $189 million. I think he has been well paid for everything he has done in his career.

I think the Yankees’ offer for those 3 years of $21 million was a great gesture on their part. Last year D. Jeter had a. 270 with 10 home runs and 67 RBIs (and that’s with 633 at-bats). I didn’t even see Barry Bonds in his steroid years make that kind of money. In those years, Bonds hit an average of . 350 with 60-70 home runs a year. Which would say he’s a little better than Mr. Jeter. In some of those years, Bonds hit more home runs than Jeter had RBIs! 🙂

I think Jeter and his agent should accept the 3-year deal and the money offered because it’s fair. I’m sure he doesn’t need the money either. I really can’t believe he didn’t take the offer at this stage of his career. When you talk about the money he’s already made, you’d think he would have. I think after going through 15 years of having a flawless image, why would you put a black mark on the end? Especially when you expect money that you don’t even need. It does not make any sense. In case you’re thinking of the (5) rings he’s received over the years, he didn’t win them alone. That was a group effort like most rings are won, by anyone in any sport. In fact, if anything, playing for the Yankees helped him more than hurt him in every way. Now just think if he played for the Padres for 15 years. Do you think he would be where he is today in baseball history? I do not believe it! That’s why these 2 pennies are 2 pennies, that makes sense!
