How to connect plumbing fixtures that save you time and money

Using pex (cross-linked polyethylene) pipe and fittings when upgrading your home’s plumbing is much easier and cheaper than using copper pipe and fittings. You won’t have to solder or deal with the heat and fumes associated with this process.

One of the most popular processes involving cross-linked polyethylene involving a proprietary product.

The process is the following:

Cut the pipe at the appropriate place with a tool designed to accomplish this task. Remember that the cuts must be square

Place the ring on the end of the tube that you want to connect the fitting to. Make sure the end of the ring is flush with the end of the pipe.

Expand the end of the pipe where you want to place the fitting with the appropriate power tool. You will not have to force the tool into the pipe. Just let the power tool’s torque do the work.

Insert the fitting into the end of the tube. Make sure the pipe is fully inserted into the fitting. The accessory will have a crest to indicate when this has occurred.

This system uses a process known as “shrink back”. This means that the connection works through the use of cross-linked molecular chains within the connection. When you expand the pipe and insert it into the fitting, it initially contracts back and the ring contracts towards the pipe and makes a tight seal.

There is no need for glues or hot work with soldering. Pipe movement is much less restrictive when various aspects of how a building is framed are considered. However, you will need to consider various building codes regarding the use of this method for installing potable water, heating, and cooling pipes.

These connections are very durable. Tests have shown that they can withstand up to 1,300 kilograms of force.

This system is ideal for all drinking water systems. This includes hot and cold water lines. This system is also excellent when considering potable water lines in the construction of a new home or small apartment complex.

The key part of this system is the expansion tools. These tools can be purchased as cordless devices. This means you won’t have to drag a power cord while you and other workers move around the project that needs the required plumbing.

There are many ways to complete a plumbing project in your home. Some of these projects can be quite simple. However, doing more advanced projects will require a plumbing professional.

Best regards
