How to identify with society

Sometimes we remember the struggles of some individuals to transcend the mediocrity of things in our society, the normality of things that our society continues to pursue and achieve. In our current society, where a certain expectation is imposed, I can feel that many pressures and anxieties are arising as a result of these demands. Every time you open the television, for example, you are amazed at how some people go to the extreme of looking good. It’s not that people are against everything, but the things that are promoted are beauty-enhancing products, for example, and all body-shaping gadgets, sometimes going to the extreme of demanding people and society look good because society expects everyone to look good. As a result, the identity of each person in society becomes obscured. Everyone is expected to go for what is in fashion and what is featured in society.

Not only fashion victimizes society but also that certain behaviorism that is expected of each one. Men are taught not to cry because tears show cowardice and weakness. Women, on the other hand, are taught to always give in to the strength of men to the point of giving up their own sense of sexuality. I am not defending a certain gender equality. I’m just trying to point out the way our society educates men and women, all individuals are fine. Is it not a fact that man is created unique and special? If this is so, a certain community is impossible and it would be even more outrageous to impose it on all individuals.

However, the challenge of overcoming these structures and the mediocrity of the structures our society has established can be risky. Controversy arises whenever an individual tries to break the status quo. Take Socrates for example, he died defending him from challenging people to live a normal life. He questioned the immortality of society as persecuted by the sophists. Is it not a fact that the temporary and the invisible, eternal? The beauty and superficial things that our society imposes on each individual are nothing compared to what is essential, that is, each of our character. Becoming more is a risk one must take, especially in times like these. It is nothing more than a challenge that each one must assume because, otherwise, the structures of society will swallow more and more the identity of each individual.
