How to Successfully Interview a Web Designer

Hey look, there are thousands and thousands of so-called web designers out there. Anyone can create a website today. So what are you looking for? What do you need? What should you ask a web designer? Do you have any ideas? Do you know if you need to know?

Consider this. Web design can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars out of your pocket. A well-made site that PAYS you and then something will cost you a bit up front. This is a major expense if you want more than a simple online poster that does nothing for you other than cost you money. Do you want this money back? Do you want this money to be an investment in your future? Or do you want this money to generate $ 1 or $ 1000 dollars in exchange for your investment in web design?

Your web designer should ask you these questions more than what colors you like. And a key question. If they don’t, they run like hell.

Most of these so called web designers are usually 1 of 3 races. I’ll go through each one and you can decide which one you want to give your hard-earned money to:

First one – this is the guy in some basement or garage somewhere who has figured out how to use some FREE or VERY low cost services to sell simple sites that he could do on his own without your help. Namely; Yahoo, Google, Homestead, Go Daddy, and many others sell these simple sites. Even our own MC sells these sites. They’re do-it-yourself sites and this guy has figured out how to sell them to you, the unsuspecting business owner. You can sell them Dirt Cheap as you get them for free or very, very cheap. These people are actually our bain with real experience and real-time engagement with our clients. I’ve never seen these be very successful without drilling some serious PPCs. Please don’t get caught in this trap. Call an expert first if you are considering one of these guys. Check them out and ask a LOT of questions. They can be cheap, but even cheap they are not a bargain if they don’t do what you need them to do. YOUR MONEY AND TIME are out of your pocket, why waste it?

2nd – Now these guys DO know what they are doing with graphics and where 98% of web designers are in this equation. These guys have spent years and years learning software, coding, etc. They make the most beautiful places that exist. They really do. I honestly enjoy looking at them when I find them. I marvel at the newest and latest technology that they can combine and make us drool. They spend a lot of time, and I mean a lot of time working to impress us. Then they spend even more time creating content on their sites that tries to convey the amazing things they have created. They spin the copywriting on their sites so that now you are extremely impressed with them and their work. Are you starting to see the pattern here? Have you heard a word about what they have created in terms of investments for their clients? Do you see any kind of return on their VERY expensive graphic design? These websites are made to impress, the design is amazing, but have your clients gotten a red penny for it?

3rd – This guy is the one who asks you about you and what you need or want. This guy is the one who shows you the money. You want to know what you want, need or want to get back on your investment. He will only charge you what you can afford and then work out a plan to recoup more and more of that investment. It’s focused on YOU, the paying CUSTOMER! Not about him or his ability to show off on the internet. This guy is focused on your success. And their website says so. He does not talk over and over again about what he has done or the beautiful sites he has created. Instead, learn about yourself, focus on your needs, and then discuss with you how to go after those numbers in real time. It’s always about you.

So ask, ask, ask, and then ask more questions about how your prospective web designer can help you get there. Do some home work before calling one. Find out how many people are on the Internet looking for you and your services. Learn how you will achieve those numbers, and then how it will work with you in the future to get more and more of them. This is what most people need from a website, right? Real-time money recovery on investment, so why leave this to chance?

If you just want help figuring out how many are searching for it on the internet, feel free to call or email me. I’ll send you a free real-time report and tell you how to find them on your own if you ask. My mission is YOU and YOUR SUCCESS, so if this means that all you need is real-time information so you can call with confidence, I would be happy to help protect you.
