Koh Samui is a paradise on earth

Koh Samui was a quiet backwater some 20 years ago. It is an island of calm, crystalline and blue waters, white sand beaches where only fishermen and some backpackers lived. Located in the center of the Gulf of Siam, Koh Samui is blessed with year-round sunshine and pristine beaches. Due to this it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

Chaweng, on the east coast, is one of the most famous places on Koh Samui, due to its large white sand beach, top hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Due to the scarcity of free land today around Chaweng, other regions such as Lamai, Ban Taling Ngam and Bang Por are developing in a big way and are likely to see a big boom in the near future. The north and south-west of Koh Samui are expected to become a prime residential area, due to the availability of some of the largest land on the island and the construction of some of the largest private homes.

Currently, the real estate sector is in a lull due to some cases of illegitimate development scandals and recent political instability. However, with elections taking place later this year and respected agencies such as Savills and Exotiq entering the market, the situation is expected to improve substantially.

Currently a part of Suratthani state, Koh Samui is expected to become an independent province very soon, giving it much more money from the central government, which will lead to more investment in the island’s infrastructure. This implies a better choice for foreign investors. The airport is expected to undergo major modifications soon, thus providing faster access to Southeast Asian countries and more tourists. The Hyatt is building a new hotel, and Big C and Club Med have also put plans in place to build new resorts on the island. Added to this is the fact that many famous personalities have just bought land on Koh Samui; thus boosting the real estate market. With Koh Samui offering properties and cultural developments, it’s no surprise that it’s the top tourist destination in the world.
