Rediscovering the Power of the Mind – Part 1 – Origin of Thought

“TAPASA PRAPYATE SATVAM, SATVAT SAMPRAPYATE MANAHA”

“MANASA PRAPYATE HYATMA, HYATMAPATYA NIVARTATE”

Purport: Purification of the mind and limitation of physical impulses lead to the acquisition of sublime truthfulness. Truthfulness leads to the creation of depth in rational thinking. The depth of rational thought follows the increase in inner spirituality. The enrichment of inner spirituality leads to awakening and enlightenment of the “Atma” or soul.

A thought that originates in the mind is just a thought. Pure and complete in character. Sometimes restricting its region of influence to basic needs, be it the human body or that of any other creature. It often encompasses the entire universe as a guiding light like the principles of “Geeta” established several centuries ago by “Vasudev Krishna”.

Each creature is blessed with a conscious power that acts differently when it unites with the soul and differently when it unites with the mind. A fluctuating thought seems to come from the mind, but a firm and determined thought always comes from the soul. The mind has a natural power and ability to recognize positivity and negativity in thinking. This power is called “conscious intelligence.”

A thought is just a distinct thought until it is singular in nature. Although singular when born in the mind, it expands and extends its domain of influence encompassing our unmet needs and impulses. Its enlargement and expansion depends to a great extent on the situations and circumstances of life being constantly altered. Only through continuous and sustained spiritual meditation can the emotions attributed to it be released. It is only through divine contemplation one can enhance and increase the power to detect and discover these emotions attached to thought that it changes its character from thought to desire, urge, desire, need and the rest.

Very deep inside; each of us can experience and feel the relationship between our body, heart and mind. The behavior of our body depends largely on our habits and attitudes. As soon as we take a principled or unprincipled action to receive any tangible or intangible gain or benefit; the desires that underlie these actions come to dwell in our soul with each birth and rebirth transforming it from “Atman to Jivatma”. Finally, the emotions and feelings that arise from the heart along with the psyche that arise from the brain; which is also the seat of “Paarmatma or Paarbrahma”, greatly influences the functioning of the body.

As when our heart rejoices, it lights up our face with joy and darkens our face with darkness when it is full of worries. It increases the level of toxicity of the blood when we get angry; decreasing the difference between what is right and what is morally wrong. Also, when greed and greed take over our minds, we tend to overlook the difference between the ethical and the unethical.
