Spiderman Number 1: Tinkerer’s Trials

Then, The vulture in the first story and The Tinkerer in the second, the Spiderman The series was doing very well in its second issue. With the backstory firmly created in the first issue, Stan Lee and his group decided to include some supervillains for Spiderman.

Synopsis

In this issue, Peter Parker begins working for a world-famous scientist, Professor Cobbwell. While his school teachers are happy with him, his colleagues and classmates start to label him a reading worm, and he ends up not being the most famous kid in school.

Now, like any other intern, Parker’s life is not just about working on what it is, but also about doing the tasks the professor tells him to do. This puts in contact with a man known only as The Tinkerer, who repairs the electronic devices of important men for just a penny.

Parker finds this suspicious, and his spider sense tingles when he arrives at The Tinkerer’s lair, but he has no choice but to leave. After all, the intern only has to do what their employer has told them, right?

Back in the professor’s lab, he feels the same tingle and our superhero in disguise is stumped. Feel the same tingling when you were in The Tinkerer’s lab!

When Professor Cobbwell leaves for the day, Spiderman investigates the radio and finds some unique devices. Our brave heart hero decides to investigate further.

Well, Spidey discovers that The Tinkerer’s repair shop is just a front for an alien race that has a unique plan to take over the world. They have inserted a device in the electronic devices of all the important men, so that they can decipher their user behavior and spy on them.

In fact, the alien race is snooping into defense plans being discussed by an Army Major, even when Spiderman learns of their vile plan.

Spiderman is found, and there is a skirmish between the aliens and Spiderman. Although Spidey overpowers them all, he is eventually captured after a device is thrown at him. He is held captive in a special cell, through which Spidey goes out with his net.

Now there is another skirmish, in which one of the control panels is hit and there is a huge fire. Spiderman escapes, along with The Tinkerer and all the aliens. When people see Spiderman escaping from the chimney, they wonder if it was Spiderman who set the building on fire.

Discussion:

The first issue got Peter Parker used to his role as Spiderman, and the next issue got him fighting a common criminal, The Vulture, for the first time, and the third article pitting him against an alien race!

That escalated pretty quickly, didn’t it? Well the common thread in all these stories is electronics. A miniature camera, a device that stops the artificial wings of the vulture, and special devices on radios that allow people to spy on others.

We must emphasize here that while electronics may seem portrayed in bad light, it is ultimately an electronic device that Spiderman uses to defeat The Vulture.

If comics are a picture of the situation back then, we assume that being in the electronics business was not a very clear idea at the time. In these issues, along with the larger-than-life characters like an alien race and a flying thief, the new electronics are at the heart of the issue.

The Spiderman character has grown enormously in the opening issues as well, and the writers have gone to great lengths to explain how Spidey is doing things.

We look forward to reading the other adventures and discussing them. Are you? Tell us all about it in the comment section below.
