The 5 best songs of Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson will never be the icon that he is without the songs. Beyond all the scandals, controversies and scars over the years, there is music. In fact, all those negative things will be forgotten in a few decades, but the songs will remain.

Actually, it’s all about the songs.

So our 3D animation studio here at Mediafreaks has decided to list their five favorite MJ songs. Out of all those singles, there are some singles that will really stand out among the rest.

1. Suspense

We jump to the most successful single from the most successful album in the history of pop music. Yes, that’s Thriller for you. What’s not to love with a young Michael Jackson strutting around with zombies?

Thriller is supernatural at its core, best exemplified in the music video for the song that ultimately made Michael Jackson a household name. Thriller was released on January 23, 1984 for the Epic label.

But what made Michael epic in this video is this costume:

Beyond the yellow eyes, creepy voiceover, werewolf transformation, and zombie production, this red jacket was more memorable for people. For any Michael Jackson impersonator, this jacket is a must.

2.Billie Jean

The single Thriller from the album of the same name was the third song to be released. The iconic song with the catchy bassline that propelled MJ into the national consciousness was Billie Jean.

Remember this bass line:

MJ related that he thought of this bass line while he was inside his car. This just goes to show how catchy the bass line is. That’s why lost in the shuffle of the song are the lyrics created by Michael Jackson.

Billie Jean, as MJ narrates, is a girl who claims to have his son. No, there is no real Billie Jean, but this character is a collection of experiences of female stalkers that she went through together with her brothers, already in the Jackson 5 days.

Billie Jean was released as the second single from the Thriller album on January 2, 1983 and at first, producer Quincy Jones did not want to include it because he thought it was weak, especially the intro part. But MJ said that this was the part that made him want to dance.

And the rest is history.

3.black or white

Black or White was the first single from the Dangerous album in the 1990s. Speaking of racial harmony, the song was released in November 1991 and the elements of hard rock, dance and rap are evident here, especially since Slash from the band Guns N’ Roses provided the nacho on this song.

The music video for this song was quite famous for the inclusion of McCaulay Culkin who at the time was a very popular child star thanks to the Home Alone film series. For us here at our Mediafreaks 3D animation studio, Black or White is revolutionary for introducing morphing animation at the end of the song.

This was also a video showing MJ’s crotch grab, so it’s fun to watch. Also, the song is quite ironic in the face of MJ’s transformation over the years from a black African American to a white person.

4. Smooth Criminal

Of course, there are so many Michael Jackson music videos out there that it’s hard to choose. But we will select Smooth Criminal (from the Bad album, released in 1988) for his characteristic dance steps. Remember the anti-gravity lean where Michael appears to defy the laws of physics by leaning forward without losing his balance.

This dance move was so creative that the anti-gravity tilt had been filed for a patent!

This part of the list is also a tribute to MJ’s other dance music videos like Don’t Stop til You Get Enough and Rock With You. But despite everything, Smooth Criminal continues to be the most remembered.

5. Heal the world

We saved this song for our last spot because MJ has been active his entire life in promoting social awareness among people everywhere. These songs, such as We Are the World and Earth Song, have been active in spreading the promotion among the people. But Heal the World, a cut from the 1991 Dangerous album, is special because its melody is truly the most relaxing of my preference.

Just to show how selfless this song is, this is one of the few songs that didn’t feature MJ in the music video. It was really moving to hear this song at her funeral.
