Blog Tip: Search Engine Optimization With WordPress

Search Engine Optimization

Now, the most important steps when starting a blog are obviously promoting it, while some might argue that they don’t need a reader because they wrote their posts for fun as a hobby, this might be true, but if you’re writing and want feedback from others, you obviously need to get your blog noticed on the web first. This may sound easy, but believe me, if you don’t do it correctly, it will be quite difficult for you to compete with other blogs that have been established for a longer time or a new blog with better SEO (search engine optimization).

Now what is this SEO and why do you need it?

Well, besides being ranked number one in Google through advertising, there are a few other ways to do it, one is to build a good social media connection where you can post your domain URL on a site like Facebook and have your friends and their friends share the link, so it’s also called social marketing or you can do it the old fashioned way which is SEO. One good thing about SEO is that most of the time it’s free, unless you pay other people to do it for you. SEO is basically putting all the obvious tags and keywords relevant to your site on your site, proper titles, legible and popular keywords that really help your site grow. This is because most people enter the same keyword when searching for something specific, for example money.

How do you do that with wordpress?

As simple as installing WordPress, all you need to do is go to the admin panel and click on plugins and add new ones.

search for all-in-one SEO or all-in-one SEO, you should be able to get few results. Choose the one that was shown, there are some other SEO plugins but I am using this one called All in One SEO Pack. It’s totally up to you to choose, but I definitely recommend it.

Then just click install. You should be able to see a new settings menu appear in the dropdown called All in One SEO, click on it, the first thing you need to do is enable the plugin, then the rest is self explanatory, just fill out the form and submit.

This is an example of mine. Now we go to the publications section. You should be able to see a new menu, again make sure you fill everything in, it’s self explanatory but I’ll do a more detailed explanation later on how to use the keyword field effectively.

So now, every time you post, make sure you fill those fields together. Trust me, it’s a lot of work, but it will make it worth your while. Make sure you do the same for all your old posts, if you have any, the SEO menu is accessible when you edit your post because it is integrated together with wordpress.

Now for the final part, we need to tell the search engine that we have updated our blog by pinging them or submitting our sitemap, it’s normally better to generate it manually if you know how to do it, but if not, go to the plugins section again and now find the xml sitemap. You should see a plugin called Google xmp sitemaps, download and activate it.

Now go to settings and click on generate sitemaps for the first time. You should get a report that the sitemaps were successfully generated and sent to some websites. Now your work can be considered done and you can sit back and wait for the Google crawler to get to your website and index it. That’s all for now, I hope you enjoy the post. Thank you for reading.
