Building downlines and maintaining them

You know the setting: you join a show, you work hard to promote it, to get subscriptions, and you feel like you’re hitting a brick wall. After a few months, you give up and try something else, or you give up completely.

Do you know what is missing? Active and helpful sponsors / uplines. Have you ever tried to mail your upline, only to get NO response? It’s a horrible feeling. Makes you think “Why should I bother trying to help this guy make some money?”

Have you been in this situation? Or maybe you are guilty of being this kind of sponsor? Either way, you should read this:

I’m actively trying to help anyone who signs up under me, no matter what. I always have, and in 4 years of marketing, I still have almost the same loyal people following me on whatever show I show them.

It doesn’t matter if the show turns out to be a failure or the best thing in the world. Those people are with me all the time, and they are fantastic!

I try to promote their pages / programs, transmit subscriptions to them, etc. and at the risk of appearing stubborn: They love me for that! That’s why even if one program crashes, they follow me through to the next one, because they KNOW that I will help as much as I can.

Mail your upline if you need help with something, let them know you are struggling. Ask what you want. Trust me, it works wonders and people don’t read minds.

If you don’t ASK for help, most will assume you’re doing it right. If you don’t get any support from your sponsor, go higher, even as high as the program owner if necessary.

I’m a pseudo-blonde with tech stuff, I asked a friend to help me build my ezine (he’s a programmer) and VOILA! website all built. So I’m living proof: YES it helps to ask.

DO NOT be a “dead” sponsor. Stay in touch with your records regularly. Offer your help in any way you can, offer to exchange tips, advice and information with them.

Search the net for some good e-books that might be useful to them and pass them on. The free ones are the best for this purpose. (Just make sure you read the books yourself first, so you know they aren’t rubbish)

Do you have any useful software that you use? Pass it on to those below you. Anything you have found useful, pass it on. Just remember never, ever, spam your downlines with other things.

Send an email maybe twice a month, offering your help. Make sure you give them multiple ways to reach you, email, msn, yahoo messenger, just to name a few, and ALWAYS give them time.

If someone asks you a question that you can’t answer, you know what to do, right? Ask YOUR upline, don’t let them be lazy. After all, they want YOU to help them earn some money, so ask them to help you if you need it!

Bottom line: never be afraid to ask for or offer help. It works for me, and most of the people in my downline now practice the same. Now go out there and help each other, it will be worth it 🙂
