Maui Fire Lawyers Offer

When fires ripped through the beautiful west Maui town of Lahaina, it was one of the most devastating natural disasters in US history. The fire destroyed homes, businesses, places of worship, historic buildings, and more. It is estimated that the fire will cost billions of dollars to rebuild.

Many residents of Lahaina and other parts of Hawaii are still struggling to recover from the devastating fires. The fires were caused by a combination of factors, including wind and climate change. However, some believe that the fires were also caused by negligence by electric companies. This is a large part of the reason why so many fire victims are seeking compensation from Hawaiian Electric.

If you or someone you love has been affected by the recent wildfires in Hawaii, we encourage you to contact our Maui fire lawyers as soon as possible. We will help you determine if you have a valid claim against the electric company and work to get you the money you deserve.

Hawaiian Electric fire lawyers

During the 2017 North Bay wildfires and the 2018 Camp fire, big California law firms descended on fire-scarred communities, signing up victims by the thousands to sue electric utility Pacific Gas & Electric for their losses. Now, it appears that the same large, out-of-town legal firms are descending on Maui to investigate and file lawsuits against power supplier Hawaiian Electric.

A Maui lawmaker’s participation in the litigation has raised eyebrows. State Senator Gilbert Keith-Agaran is pictured on a flyer for a community discussion along with members of his law firm, Takatani Agaran Jorgensen & Wildman, who are involved in the lawsuits against HECO.

Lawsuits against HECO have been filed by numerous people, including the County of Maui. The lawsuits allege that the utility was negligent in keeping its power lines energized during high winds and fire warnings. The lawsuits allege that the energized power lines were the source of the fire that burned through the heart of Lahaina.

Unlike other states, Hawaii has no statutory limits on the amount of punitive damages awarded by courts. Therefore, the lawsuits against HECO could result in multibillion-dollar verdicts. In the past, other public utilities have been found liable for devastating fires. For example, in 2020, a jury awarded tens of millions of dollars to homeowners who sued PacifiCorp for its role in the deadly Oregon wildfires.
