Healthy Week 10 Meal with Healthy Leftovers Idea

Healthy food: Turkey Bacon Cheeseburger Lettuce Wraps with Fruit Bowl
Healthy leftover idea: patty melts

Do you want to eat healthy and at the same time enjoy an American classic? Sure, the traditional cheeseburger with fries and a soda won’t be particularly healthy for you, but there is a way to enjoy a serving of this meal without having to sacrifice much in terms of flavor.

Although the food listed below may seem a bit strange at first, don’t write it off until you actually try it. Like most healthy meal alternatives, it just takes a willingness to try something new and you might be in for quite a surprise. By eliminating the French fries (chips) and the calorie/sugar-filled drink (soda), and swapping the 200-calorie bun for a lettuce leaf (virtually 0 calories), you’ll see how a meal that may have had more than 1,800 calories are now only about 400. That should make you smile as you enjoy the savory flavor of these Turkey Bacon Cheeseburger Lettuce Wraps.

*Remember, drink water or another calorie-free beverage to avoid adding unnecessary extra calories to this meal.

Addresses
one. Place entire package of ground turkey in a large mixing bowl. Add 2 tablespoons minced onion, 4 tablespoons A1 sauce, and a few drops of seasoned salt, pepper, and garlic powder. With clean hands mix everything well.

two. Once meat is mixed together, form turkey patties. Use your hands to make flat circular discs about 5 inches in diameter. They will shrink about an inch after cooking.

3. Use nonstick spray or a light coating of oil on the skillet, turn it over medium heat, and place the turkey patties. Use a spatula and carefully flip the patties every 4-5 minutes.

Four. When the burgers are browned on both sides and seem almost done, you can add cheese on top if you like. If you’re not sure, use a knife to cut open the center of a patty to inspect the color. Keep in mind that once you add the cheese, you will no longer be able to flip the burgers, so make sure the turkey burgers are almost finished cooking before you add cheese.

5. For turkey bacon, you can choose to cook it the traditional way in a skillet, turning the pieces with tongs every few minutes until cooked to your preference. Another way is to place a paper towel on a microwave-safe plate, put the turkey bacon pieces next to each other, and then cover with another paper towel. Microwave for two minutes, then flip the pieces over, retrieve, and set for another two minutes. You may need to repeat depending on how many pieces you put on and how well done you prefer the bacon. If you need more time, reduce to just one minute and check back before repeating.

6. Carefully peel large lettuce leaves, wash gently, and pat dry with a clean paper towel. Place inside a turkey cheeseburger with 2 turkey bacon strips. You can add mustard and a little ketchup or mayonnaise if you like, just be careful not to use too much. Wrap the lettuce to close as best as possible. You may want to use two pieces of lettuce so that the turkey bacon cheeseburger is completely wrapped.

7. Finally slice/chop the fruits to your liking and place in a serving bowl along with your healthy turkey bacon cheeseburger lettuce wrap!

Leftover Food Idea: You may choose to take one of these wonderful lettuce-wrapped turkey burgers to work for the next day, however, try to keep the lettuce separate from everything else until you’re ready to eat. The package separately or with a dry paper towel wrapped around the lettuce will do the trick.

If you want something a little different, you can choose to make patty melts. Similar to making a grilled cheese sandwich, lightly butter two pieces of whole wheat bread, place one piece of bread butter side down in a skillet (medium heat). Then place one of the leftover cooked turkey patties on top along with a piece of lettuce and/or tomato and finally the second piece of bread, but this time buttered side up. Use a spatula to flip the melted burger every 4-5 minutes until each side is golden brown. Cut it in half and store it in a plastic travel container to enjoy for lunch the next day.
