Old music returns to the Internet with the rock and roll of yesteryear

Less than four months ago, Lee Douglas began translating his love for the music of the ’50s and ’60s, affectionately called the Oldies, into a new medium, the podcast. Along with the folks at Talkshoe.com, he began his adventure in the new medium.

His new show, which he called “Old Time Rock n Roll”, would be different in the way it would be presented.

The usual playlists that are the hallmark of Oldies AM radio stations were out the window. Her own collection of 12,000 songs would be digitized on his computer to lay the foundation for the show. Instead of playing those songs that lovers of the old days had grown tired of, he opened his collection and played the songs that hadn’t been heard in many years. Then he would have a spotlight for each show, Novelties in one, doo wops in another, rockabilly in yet another. Each one with a dose of rock history and reminiscences.

Research each singer and each song to provide background for each show. So in November it aired on talkshoe.com. The first week had 8 listeners. Obviously her friends had at least listened. By the third week it had 80 listeners, still a big jump. However, he was not prepared for the next week when out of the blue 800 people heard him.

Since then, with advertising on various classifieds sites, the program has continued to grow and grow, breaking all kinds of records on the Internet and on the site itself.

Now, just 4 months later, an impressive 25,000 listeners have tuned in to his show, in one month.

His gateway site http://www.wrestlingwrap.com, which used to serve as his flagship wrestling show site and portals for his own promotion, is now the host of Old Time Rock n Roll.

His Brooklyn-bred voice can still be heard even though he has been a Floridian for many years. In fact, he still accepts requests and dedications like in the old days through his email address [email protected]

Where does it go from here? His plans are, as he puts it, “to take it to the next level.”

He says he’d like to get an even bigger audience and eventually try to bring some old live shows and doo wop across the country. But that is very far.

Their focus is to make Old Time Rock n Roll even bigger and better with each passing week. With his success it also means success for his podcast network called Talkshoe.com. Douglas predicts that Talkshoe will be the biggest thing in podcasting in 2007 and beyond.
