Oversized Golf Irons – Beginner Help

As a beginner, there are several factors to consider in order to “get in easy” with the game. At the beginning level, given your lack of skill, you’ll want a more “forgiving” set of clubs. This would mean opting for more flexible shafts, higher loft, and larger head sizes.

Oversized golf irons were designed for beginners. The heavier, more solid head gives you a larger sweet spot, making it much more “forgiving” and making it easier to play a reasonable shot. As your technique improves over time (and your handicap), you’ll find that you start to lose the control you want once you’ve gone further. By then you just go down to a sniffing head size.

When it comes to buying oversized golf irons, remember that harder is better. The harder the material of construction, the more “forgiving” the stick will be. It is best to opt for stainless steel or titanium. Keep in mind, however, that titanium is quite expensive. So if you see a cheaper set with titanium heads, it is likely not high quality and may even only contain a small percentage of titanium.

Large golf irons were basically designed to be easier to hit. As a beginner, distance control is not a high priority. Due to your lack of skill, it doesn’t make much of a difference at this stage. You just want to be able to get the ball out and keep it in play. As your game improves, you’ll rely more on your swing and less on the weight of the club. Then you can go ahead.
