Perfumes – A quick guide to herbaceous fragrances

Perfumes are classified into different categories based on their ingredients, character, and notes to make it easier for customers to identify and purchase the fragrance of their choice. For perfume lovers and also for collectors who want to know everything there is about the world of perfume, classifying perfumes into different groups helps them to carry out a detailed study of their theme.

Other benefits of sorting perfumes allow a shopper to determine if what they are hoping to buy will suit their body chemistry, match their moods and tendencies, whether the ingredients in it will cause an allergic reaction on their skin, and also if it will be the ideal gift for the person you hope to buy it for.

In general, herbal perfumes are not known to be as popular as, say, floral or citrus. However, there are certain perfumes, especially for men, that have received acclaim over a period of time. Herbaceous scents typically have herbaceous top notes with base notes of lavender, oakmoss, and coumarin, and rely on scent chemicals to produce notes that blend well. The herbaceous aromas have been described in the past as “fougere” or fern. However, this was a fancy note as ferns have no scent and the fern fragrance was created using primarily lavender. “Green” has also been a term used to describe this type of fragrance.

Below is a list of herbal perfumes that have been popular for some time.
