Review of A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

Testing Quantum Mechanics and Relativity to the limits of probability, the author envisions a theoretical progression from the Big Bang to Black Holes. He explores the origins of matter, the excitation of energy, physical dualism, metaphysics, and the fate of the universe. Finally, he predicts: with the conjunction of physics and metaphysics, ‘we would know our own mind!’

Confined to a wheelchair at a young age, the eminent physicist has since battled the ravages of Lou Gerig’s disease, while wrestling with the controversial behavior of particles and managing the prestigious office once held by Isaac Newton at the University of Cambridge. One of the twenty best physicists of our time, Hawking communicates through a voice synthesizer. Still, except for reduced digital dexterity, he remains intact, a legend in his own time.

Regarding determinism and the genesis of the earth, Hawking comments “According to the ancient Judeo-Christian-Muslim tradition, the universe began at a finite time, and not too distant, in the past… today we still yearn to know why we are here and where we came from..” The author questions popular creationism and monotheistic time for a more realistic time span than religious yearnings. But most acknowledge the immense time in evidence; even casual interest will intercept the number of light-years needed for the visible light particles travel from the most distant galaxy to Earth, 14 billion light-years.This vastness challenges monotheism’s claim of a late creation and demonstrates that astronomical time far exceeds traditional finiteness.

Hawking’s interest is in the ultimate particle and how to overcome Plank’s quantum hypothesis; committed by the behavior of the electrons to the induction of energy”,…one cannot use an arbitrarily small amount of; one has to use at least a quantum. This quantum will perturb the particle and change its velocity in a way that cannot be predicted..” However, theorists should be able to predict a velocity and quanta outside of visible light, and with considerable accuracy.

Hawking concludes: Other forms of intelligent life could exist; and other scenes of the universe may seem very beautiful; but they may not contain an intellect capable of marveling at that beauty. “One can take this as evidence of a divine purpose in Creation and the choice of laws of science or as support for the strong anthropic principle… that all this vast construction exists simply for our good. this is very hard to believe.”

For coup de graceHawking quotes the philosopher Wittgenstein: “The only task left to philosophy is the analysis of language.Hawking then adds: “But if we discover a complete theory: it would be the final triumph of human reason, because then we would know the mind of God..”

language analysis“from the above, it is especially relevant in the evaluation of physics and knowledge”the mind of god.” In biblical immutability, in an analysis of language, we discover a key to resolving the atheist/theist debate and how it might relate to ‘the mind of God’. We appreciate the great mind of Stephen Hawking, but in Biblical prose, we discover that the residence of God was moved from its early first-century site: the Temple, to another place: the intellect of man. This residence of God was ultimately destined to put an end to the God-husband. to the tribal-wife marriage contract.

Does anyone wonder where the God anomaly resided and where it would reside in the new site, and the length of the tenure? Apart from incomplete records and in the place of advanced theory, we cannot know the mind of God; for, in the legal historicity provided by the idea of God, lies an immutable realization: God resides in the minds of men, millions of different minds, and once resided in the Temple until the ‘end of all things’: that is, until the end of the contract, until the end of the Ten Ages. The Bible is much easier to decipher once the time frame and term of the Ten Ages contract is fully understood. Still, A Brief History of Time is an interesting read through and through.

The key to intercept mind over matter is available to those who are interested.
