Social media marketing – do you have a recent blog post? I hope so (Let’s make sure)

What is your most recent blog entry?

When you’re first starting out online, it’s pretty overwhelming when you consider all the things you need to do and a blog post is definitely something you’ll need to do. Once a month won’t cut it. If you only post once a month, then you are not generating active followers. You will not engage people online.

Stop and think about your own clothes when you’re online. Is it every day? Or is it once a month? Somewhere in between? You definitely need to build the muscle of writing blog posts. One of the best things you can do is test your typing muscles. Before you start online, before your website is live or you decide you are going to do something different, something new, just start writing your posts. Don’t post them, just write them down. Take 30 minutes 5 days a week, make it a habit.

Leave your blog posts in your website’s back office ready to go and put to the test for a month. See how many blog posts you write. This is going to build your blog writing muscle. Once you start and develop that habit, it’s much easier.

You need do something every day. Whether you’re looking for a new title, searching for content, or maybe some days you’ll start a new draft. You won’t necessarily finish it, but at least you’ll get it started.

Tea the worst thing is that blank page looking at you from your computer screen. If one day you go in and insert five or six headlines, maybe a couple of key points for each post, the next time you come back, that’s the start.

Be sure to Post to your social media profiles about your upcoming blog posts, build anticipation.

look for photosYou can spend hours searching for images for your blog posts and you definitely want to add images to all your blog posts. Don’t be like me; Learn the fast way, not the hard way. Images will attract people more, so you should spend time researching and searching for those images. You may decide you find a bunch of images that are relevant to a post, you don’t necessarily have to put them all in the post, you can just put the link in the post where the image is and then you can decide later.

Same with the video. embed a video in your blog posts encourages people to stay on your page longer. You want that, that’s a good thing! One of the things that I do when I’m looking for videos for my posts is that when I like something, I take the YouTube link and put it right in the post, when I have the post. totally finished, sometimes I only have one, sometimes three or four different videos to choose from. At that point, when I’ve finished the blog post, I can decide which video is the best fit.

So how recent is your latest blog post? That is really a critical question to ask yourself. If you want to engage people online and build that online community, you definitely need to build your blog writing muscle. When you have this muscle built, then like magic you have tons of content for your social media profiles.
