Sword Fighting: Proper Training and Safety Equipment

In medieval times there were many hand-to-hand combat, they did it during wars and even just for recreational purposes. To this day, some people still practice fencing and fighting; This is very similar to the hand-to-hand combat they used to fight with swords in medieval times, but less dangerous. They do it today for recreational purposes in many parts of the world.

The duel they do is not only with swords and / or shields, they do it with many different types of weapons such as maces, spears, flails and many other types. In addition to recreational purposes, they do it as a show for the people, to make money through the entrance fees they charge. Being good at fighting with swords and other weapons is not easy, usually people need a lot of training to be good with them.

Even if the swords they fight with are dull, they can still hurt you badly if you don’t defend yourself properly and wear the proper armor. Even though it may look bad when you watch these mock fights, no one gets seriously hurt because the armor they wear is designed to dissipate the force of the sword. When the fight took place in medieval times, if you were wrong, it was your life that was at stake, not only your body was injured where you had to recover.

Although it is possible to learn some sword games, I would never recommend a hobbyist to try it unless supervised by a professional. As I said before, these swords can be dull, but they can still inflict a fatal wound if mishandled.

You can find places where they teach you how to handle and train with swords, or even fencing, which is a totally different form of fighting than you would with a normal sword. Of course, these lessons cost, but they are a lot of fun. Wielding a different type of sword fighting may not be as exciting as using swords, maces, flails, or any other type of melee weapon, but it still requires a lot of skill and proper safety gear. So fighting with melee weapons may sound like fun, but it’s dangerous if you’re not prepared. Before you go, try swordplay with a friend, make sure you know what you’re doing and have all the proper safety gear.
