Unique and fun things to do in Fort Worth, Texas

Sundance Square

What a great part of the city! Sundance Plaza has tons of culinary options including Italian food, sushi, Tex-Mex, bar food, a chop house, and more. Fort Worth has the third largest cultural district in the United States and Sundance Square is certainly an integral part of that. Bass Performance Hall resides here and is considered “the jewel in the crown of downtown Fort Worth.” Aside from the Opera, there is also the Scat Lounge, which offers live jazz, as well as several other venues that have a full schedule of live music. There are also a few galleries, including one featuring the art of the late Thomas Kinkade. Sundance Square is a great modern part of the city with that Texas feel.

Corrales

If you ever pretended to be in the Wild West as a child, the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is the place for you. Here, you can revisit those childhood fantasies while riding a mechanical bull or dressing up in authentic cowboy clothing. Alongside the food and drink, there is a rodeo as a recurring event as well as live concerts that come and go. This is a great place to spend a day with the family or a night out with your friends.

Museums and galleries in the cultural district

You will be amazed at all the wonderful things to see and do in the Fort Worth Cultural District. Seven museums, four galleries, more than a dozen restaurants, various theaters, and more line these beautifully manicured streets. One of the museums, The Kimball, is often regarded as “America’s best small museum.” The building itself was designed by world renowned architect Louis L. Kahn and it is simply magnificent. Inside, you’ll find works by Monet, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Picasso, as well as the earliest known painting by Michelangelo.

Botanical Gardens

About three miles from downtown, in the Cultural District, you’ll find another great place to hang out and capture the beauty of Texas. The Fort Worth Botanical Garden is made up of twenty-three unique gardens artfully placed on 110 acres. Texas heats up and winding roads aren’t made for heels, so be sure to dress comfortably. We recommend spending the four dollars on the butterfly house and you will want to make sure you bring your camera.

Fort Worth Zoo

While not all zoos are created equal, the Fort Worth Zoo is definitely worth a visit. Open all year round, it is home to more than 7,000 animals of 500 species. Ranked the number five zoo in America by USA Travel Guide, as well as the number one place to bring the family to the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex by Zagat, this place has some clout. The nice people at the zoo make it comfortable and clean for both you and the animals, so head over and check it out while you’re in town.
