What is the world record for push-ups?

Push-ups are one of the best exercises of all time. They work most of the upper body and can be done without any equipment. You may think you are the “king” of this exercise, but do you know what the world record for push-ups is and how it compares to it?

MANY world records

First of all, it is important to note that there is no ONE push up world record. Rather, there are many depending on the criteria you choose. Looking for the most done in a row? How about what else is done in a year? It may sound crazy, but how about logging for those who use a single finger as a lever? You will find all of these and more below.

Push up world records

  • Most nonstop: 10,507. This was accomplished by Minoru Yoshida from Japan in 1980 and has yet to be broken.
  • Most in an hour: 3877. Bijender Singh from India made this one in 1988.

  • Most in one year: 1,500,230. This was done by the one and only Paddy Doyle between 1988 and 1989. Doyle from the UK has broken countless fitness records and will appear on this list again.

  • Most push-ups: 5557. Canadian Doug Pruden accomplished this feat in 2004.

  • Most fingertip push-ups in 5 hours: 8200. Terry Cole from UK did this in 1996.

  • Most on one finger: 124. Paul Lynch from the UK achieved this in 1992.

  • Most one-armed push-ups in one hour: 2521. Again, performed by Paddy Doyle in 1990.

  • Most one-arm push-ups: 12. Yury Tikhonovich of Russia did this in 2006.

Now is your turn!

Do you think you can break any of these world records or perhaps set a new one on your own? Well, you better learn how to do a correct one first. Here’s how to make them perfectly shaped:

  1. Support your body on the floor with your feet together, arms at shoulder height and approximately shoulder width apart so that your body from head to heels is completely straight.
  2. Lower yourself to the ground keeping your body straight. Do not drop or lift your hips!

  3. Now push up to complete one rep.

Now keep practicing! Who knows, maybe one day you’ll make this list!
