Fancy Dress Costumes for Women – Six of the Best

As we fast-forward to Halloween, I thought it might be a good idea to update our top costume pick with my six of the best. Of course, there are a lot of costumes out there, way more than my top six picks and they are all very good. However, my choice was based on trying to be very specific about who we are rather than just a generic nurse, angel, or cowgirl costume. This list is about easily recognizable iconic characters that are sure to be a huge hit at any party.

My top six are as follows.

1. Betty Boop, not just my favorite and I’m sure this is one we all agree on. With her outspoken sex appeal, Betty was a hit with viewers, first appearing in the 1930s, still popular today, and has become one of the best-known cartoon characters in the world. Hardly anyone doesn’t instantly recognize Betty Boop “boop-oop-a-doop.”

2. Alice in Wonderland, an amazing book by Lewis Carroll, a book that has never been out of print in over 150 years, has resulted in many movies and all children know about Alice’s adventures. If we plan to have our own Mad Hatter tea party, also known as dinner at my house every night, then Alice is the one.

3. Dorothy, The Wizard of OZ, did you start singing Somewhere over the Rainbow the moment you read this name? Well who would blame you? The song is incredible, the lyrics are fascinating, and Dorothy’s journey is unforgettable. This is one where the whole family could have outfits of the various characters available.

4. Wonder Woman, I still remember Linda Carter strutting as the female superhero, the boys had so many, but Wonder Woman came along and finally the girls had our own heroine on screen. A great choice and very recognizable.

5. Cat Woman, I think this was perhaps the first antiheroine and someone that most women could understand. This outfit is so feline feminine that it purrs literarily.

6. Princess Leia, the greatest woman of all of them who faces the Dark Empire who does not know and loves Princess Leia. This costume is so cool and again so instantly recognizable and a huge family favorite as there are so many characters that the whole family can have a Star Wars costume.
