Minimum MP in Maplestory and how it affects HP wash

HP laundering can greatly increase the survivability of characters in Maplestory, but there is a limit to the number of times a class can launder hp. This limit is based on the minimum magic points (mp) a class can have. Any points added to hp after that would be considered “blood” washed. That is at least until the character’s max mp is above the min mp, and he can take away mp points again.

The actual minimum mp depends on the job class and level. It doesn’t stay the same throughout a character’s career. Once a character’s max mp falls below the minimum rank without equipment or hyperbody, since it is not counted in these calculations, they cannot draw more mp points, even if additional points have been invested in hp or mp.

The four equations for the minimum pf are listed below. These equations may not apply to all regional versions of Maplestory, but they should apply to most and will be similar for all.

Archers, second and work thieves:

*min mp: (level x 14) + 148
*mp removed by ap reset: 12
*hp gained per point added after a level: 16 – 20

Warriors:

*min mp: (4 x level) + 56 [fighters] (4 x level) + 156 [Spearmen/Pages]
*mp removed by ap reset: 4
*hp gained per point added after a level: 50 – 55

2nd Pirate job onwards:

*min mp: (18 x level) + 111
*mp removed by ap reset: 16
*HP gained per point added after one level: 39 – 40 (Brawlers) 18 – 24 (Gunslingers)

Knights of Cygnus (KoC) and Legends currently released are generally the same as their closest Adventurer counterparts for minimum mp.

Can you still successfully launder HP even if your max MP is still lower than min after leveling?

Yes and no. If you got the points for it, they can try to wash MP for a point or two first, then you may have enough to wash HP. This is called a double flush and will be explained in more detail in another article. Otherwise, no, you can’t take out MP points until you have more maximum MP than the minimum calculation. This means you can’t wash HP effectively.

For example:

* A thief had just reached level 50. This character had 880 mp without gear or hyperbody.
* The minimum mp for a level 50 thief is 848 (using the equation above).
* so, 880-848 = 32 above the mp minimum
* To get mp out with ap resets you can always round up. since each ap reset removes 12 mp, we can divide the mp over the min by 12
* 32/12 = 2.67. As it can be rounded we can reset up to 3 points
* This thief has enough mp that he can add 3 points to hp and take 3 from mp
Using the numbers above, this means 36 less mp and 48-60 more hp
