Moving to Subiaco, Perth, Western Australia

Close to Perth’s central business district Just west of Kings Park, you’ll find Subiaco. Named for the Benedictine monastery established there in 1851, it is now very stylish: where beautiful people eat in trendy outdoor cafes and shop for Versace; where you can buy a fantastic apartment overlooking the botanical gardens; where you can head out to the Saturday markets and come home laden with organic produce and delicacies.

The Jolimont, Daglish, Shenton Park, Subiaco and Crawley suburbs make up the Subiaco Metropolitan District. If you plan to buy property in the Subiaco suburb, expect to pay more than $600,000 for a two-bedroom apartment and more than a million for a single family home. Like many inner-city residential areas around the world; Subiaco was originally working class but has gentrified in more recent years. Several heritage buildings have been converted into apartments, and the streets are lined with established trees.

Many of the people who choose to live in Subiaco are young, professionals, without children, who can make the most of the gastronomic and nightlife offer. But if your young family prefers city life to the suburbs, you’ll have plenty of resources and services on your doorstep when you move to Subiaco. Schools include Subiaco Primary and Perth Modern School, a selective secondary school for the academically gifted. There are two hospitals: King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. And there are 13 parks and preserves in the neighborhood, as well as Kings Park and Botanic Gardens.
