If you’ve missed a phone call, come across a number you didn’t know, or want more information about where someone lives, it’s best to look up the NPA-NXX of a phone consumer. For those of you unfamiliar with this term, this letter code represents the North American Number Plan system for telephone numbers and refers to area code (NPA) and prefix (NXX); the first 6 digits of a ten-digit landline or cell phone number.

Looking up these six digits may not tell you anything about the person whose number you’re looking into, but it can certainly tell you a lot about their location. What can you learn?

– You can find out the name of the state, as well as the names of the different counties and cities linked to the area code.

– The name of the city or cities and the telephone operator associated with the prefix.

– The time zone that corresponds to the digits

– If the NPA has overlaps (additional codes covering the same area)

It’s important that you choose a free website, because there’s no reason you should have to pay for this basic information. It is considered public, even for mobile phones. It is only the last four digits of a phone number, known as a line number, that identify who is an actual phone consumer (IE name and address).

Typically, to look up NPA NXX, you simply find an area code data site and look up the three-digit code that corresponds to the one you’re looking for. Once you find and select it, you should receive some data about the numbers, a list of the areas it covers, and the prefixes related to the various cities within the counties.

In addition, you should also know that you can perform an area code lookup without knowing any information about a number. For example, you can search for a state and find all codes related to it and retrieve data using this method.
